Museum Block Play Table

This block play system was first developed by Marmol and Radziner for UCLA’s Hammer Museum’s Kids’ Art Museum Project in 2011. A version of this block play system is still in the Hammer Museum. In 2018 a Guidecraft employee went to the Hammer Museum and photographed the table. She took the photos back to the office and Guidecraft contacted Marmol and Radziner to see if they would be interested in transforming this concept into marketable product that would be sold to children’s museums. I created all of the manufacturing drawings for the blocks and reimagined the play surface into a smaller table with built in storage.

Renderings of the table. The blocks fit into the openings between the slats and there are drawers below the play surface. The table is made from plywood, solid Beech, and powder coated aluminum.
